Copy Microsoft Entra ID users to the GIRI server

For the users to be able to log in at GIRI with their Microsoft Entra ID account, an equivalent account must exist for them on the GIRI server as well. It is crucial that the accounts email address precisely match the email addresses registered on Microsoft Entra ID, otherwise the login will not work. To create all the users on GIRI a list of users can be imported as .csv file.

Currently there is no automatic solution or webhook available to create GIRI user accounts. But you can transfer a large number of users at once by exporting and importing a list of users stored in a CSV file. To create such a file on Microsoft Entra ID follow these three steps.

Export user CSV from Microsoft Entra ID

1. Open Microsoft Entra ID on Azure

2. Go to “Users”

1. Klick on “Download users”

The resulting CSV file contains many more columns than actually need for GIRI. That means you need to take out all unnecessary columns to match the structure described below.

Editing of the CSV file

1. Open the downloaded css file in a spreadsheet program like LibreOffice Calc, Apple Numbers or Microsoft Excell.
2. Delete all columns except the alternateEmailAddress column containing all email addresses.+
3. Rename the headline of this column to email
4. Add a second column with the headline “user type“
